About the owner of Empty Cabin Media

I’m Larry Deane, the owner and founder of Empty Cabin Media.  I’ve been blogging since 2006 when I started Gather Little by Little, a christian personal finance blog, in order to share information I was learning about personal finance and faith.  Gather Little by Little grew from what was initially just a hobby blog to a top 25 personal finance blog on the internet.  I recently sold Gather Little by Little so I could focus more on my Empty Cabin Media business and clients.

I have significant experience starting, growing and optimizing blogs and web-sites on the internet.  I’m also an IT manager and prior to that was a software architect, designer and developer.  I’m very knowledgeable in the areas of WordPress, SEO, design, traffic generation, database design, and software development.  Overall I have more than 28 years of programming experience and more than 12 years designing and building websites including some of the critical online components for the company where I am employed.  I received a BS degree in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte in 1992.

I’ve been married to my beautiful wife for 18 years and together we have 6 wonderful children.  When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, hiking and exploring the mountains of North Carolina, taking care of my saltwater aquarium and fish, and working on my home.  At the risk of stereotyping myself, I also enjoy playing banjo very much (no, I don’t wear overalls, have a long beard, make moonshine or stalk city people visiting the mountains).

Starting and running my own company has been a dream of mine since I first began working with computers.  I was 11 years old then.  It all started with a TRS-80 model III.  I have one today sitting in my office that boots and works.  The dream of running my own company has finally come true through the creation of Empty Cabin Media.

Why Empty Cabin Media?

I currently live in the rural western mountains of North Carolina.  At the top of our road is an old empty cabin.  I like to hike up there, enjoy the view and rummage through the old cabin looking for antiques and trying to learn more about the people that once lived there.  While brain storming a name one evening, I realized that  “Empty Cabin Media” would make for a unique and personal name for my company.

Feel free to contact me anytime and about pretty much anything.  I love meeting new people and developing new client relationships.
